Czochralski Crystal Growth
Teledyne FLIR crystal and laser components group specializes in ultra-high perfection high-temperature oxide crystal growth using the Czochralski method. Historic and ongoing research continuously yields new information that allows the production of new and higher quantity products with well-defined reproducible material properties. Our development efforts aim to improve existing crystalline materials, to develop new materials, and to expand the applications of crystalline materials.
The Czochralski process is named after Polish scientist Jan Czochralski, who discovered the method in 1916 while investigating the crystallization rates of metals. A standard Czochralski furnace, depicted here, consists of a top seeded growth method using an induction furnace.
